Ciao Ron! I see you are still in Italy! I hope you and your wife are doing well and having a wonderful holiday season. We miss Italia terribly and can't wait to visit again.
Just wanted to say hey!

Hi Ron,

I just read your latest article about riding a scooter in Rome. Is it true that you don't need a license to ride a scooter up to 125cc? As far as I know, the limit is 50cc. Anything above would require a patenza. If so, this is really good news for me. I really do miss riding my scooter.Havent had a chance to do that since I've migrated here in Rome since January :-)

**** REPLY**** Ciao Marina !
You do not need a motorcycle license to drive a scooter up to 125cc but you will need a “car” driver’s license… you must have some form of a driver’s license. This article is geared toward visitors to Italy. As per the Italian law, after you have lived in Italy a year you are supposed to “convert” and get an Italian driver’s license. Different rules apply if you are an EU citizen or your country has an agreement with Italy. For the USA, none of these rules apply – you will have to have an ID and a valid driver’s license…. (be it car or motorcycle for up to 125cc). Ron
