Hotel Relais Trevi 41

HotelRelais41Front Hotel Relais Trevi 41On our most recent trip back to Rome – and we’re already looking to go back in two months – we were fortunate to spend most of our time with friends up on the Via Cassia, in the northwest part of town. They were headed out for a ski week holiday and we wanted to spend a night downtown so we looked for a central location. As this was late February, there were deals to be found. I found Hotel Relais Trevi 41. On www.venere.com they were offering a special for €109. I jumped to the home page of the hotel and saw the same room for €150. I opted for the Venere special rate.

The Hotel Relais Trevi 41 is located near the Trevi Fountain. If you know where the San Crispino gelateria is on Via della Panetteria, 41… then the hotel is located right next door at Via della Panetteria, 42. The hotel advertises luxurious, modern accommodation in the heart of historic Rome. If you want to be in the center of the “tourist action” then this is the place. The hotel is in an elegant 19th century building. The renovated rooms all come with 32 inch LCD TV’s (and too many channels to look through), free WI-FI access, in a fresh and contemporary look.

I prefer to book directly with the hotel and try and match the best price, but the www.venere.com deal was too good to pass up for this location – 30% off any other rate I could find. I always then contact the hotel to insure I have a booking – and at the agreed upon price. Hotel Relais Trevi 41 was faster than me. Shortly after concluding my booking, I received an email from Chester Dasalla, of the Hotel Relais Trevi 41. In his welcome letter, he confirmed my reservation, the rate, etc. and offered the services of the hotel for pickup and delivery the local airports. A segment of this letter went like this:

Thank you for your confirmed reservation. Do you need a pick-up from the airport with no hassle to get in our Relais?! If you wish we can arrange transportation with private “limousine service” from or to Leonardo Da Vinci airport (Fiumicino) or from Giovan Battista Pastine airport (Ciampino). The price is 50 euro for 2 persons (all included). For night service between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am please add +20% to price. As soon as we receive all the details we will proceed booking your transfer and we will send you a confirmation email with all the details.

Moreover, we can book some of the tours inside and outside Rome for you and the hop-on hop-off tour buses around the city. If you already have an idea on what to do please do not hesitate to contact us. All other informations such as good restaurants, events and exhibits in Rome will be given to you by the reception staff upon arrival. Looking forward to welcoming you in Rome, we remain at your disposal for any further information and assure you all our attention at all time.

Kindest regards, Chester Dasalla

I followed up with Chester and we had exchanged emails on some other issues as we would not need any transport in or out of the city. Our friends we leaving early to hit the slopes in the Dolomites, so we jumped on the 201 bus, transferred to the 32 bus, got off at Ottaviano Metro, and then rode the metro to Barberini. We walked down the hill on Via Tritone and headed to Via della Panetteria. Yes, it helps when you know the bus routes and how to get around town. Once we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by Chester. There was no elevator and he insisted on carrying our bags. We were QUITE early (say 10:00 AM) and our room was not ready yet. But Chester did offer us an apartment… that overlooked the Trevi Fountain. Okay, why not?

So with Chester hauling our larger bag (my wife’s – need you ask?), we headed the one block over towards the Trevi and the Muratte Loft Apartment with view. There, Chester walked us through the apartment we would be staying in. Although not as “new” as perhaps the renovated hotel is, it was beautiful with silk wallpaper, a kitchenette, full service bath, a HUGE 55-inch television, and … what a view.

Chester had explained to us about the breakfast option – which having lived in Italy so long we graciously refused. But for those that are interested, it is in a sister hotel, located with a Terrace overlooking the Trevi Fountain. We had some pictures of this location in our Rooftop Bars and Restaurants in Rome posting. I have to commend Chester on his courtesy on this date and also the following day when we checked out. He was gracious and although he knew from our emails that we needed no directions or guidance – having lived in the city for years – he did offer, but did not press, sell, or offend! Any questions about the hotel he was able to answer. We did leave our luggage at the hotel (storage near the front desk) the next day at check-out as our flight did not depart until 19:05. That was also handled professionally. If we were to stay in the city again, we would definitely consider the Hotel Relais Trevi 41. Kudos to Chester and his team.

Below are some pictures of our room – and the view from inside the room. Enjoy!

Standing near the fountain and looking back, the yellow circles show you where the apartment was. We had two windows facing the Trevi and another looking to the alley on the left of the apartment.

Inside the apartment, which sleeps 4 with a convertible-couch, there were many storage areas, niches, and of course, the kitchenette. But of course the real draw was the view. Here are a few shots looking out the windows of the apartment onto the Trevi Fountain.

What incredible views. The windows were double-paned but any noise did not bother us. We’ve lived in Rome in August with no air conditioning and slept with all the windows open… so the sound of the water and crowds was no issue. Great job Hotel Relais Trevi 41 – we enjoyed our brief stay.

That’s amazing. That photo of the crowd through your window looks like you could just step out right into the middle.
